What better way to celebrate the end of summer than with a party. On August 7th, Mary Yowell, Consultant for the Charlottesville Hospital Education Program and the UVA Pediatric Clinic Medical Team, in Orange County, hosted their annual Reading Party.
All summer long children were encouraged to Read! Read! Read! They kept a log of all the books they read and presented it as their entry to the Reading Party. The highlights of the party included snow cones, face painting, magician tricks, outside games, free books and prizes for all!
As preparations are already being made for next year’s event, a few children were asked to share their experiences with the program:
What was your favorite activity at the party?
“Getting to choose a book. There was a book that I really wanted, and I picked it.”
– Brynn, age 11
“Bowling”– Luke, age 6
Did you read any book series or books by a specific author that you will want to continue to read this school year?
“I loved reading the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling. I want to continue reading them because they are amazing!” – Brynn, age 11
“Captain Underpants”- Luke, age 6
